Am I Responsible For A Bad Check Written By The Other Person On Our Joint Checking Account?

What happens if the person on your joint checking account writes a bad check? Are you responsible?

The simple answer is “yes”. If the bank account is owned jointly, you are each personally liable for any bad checks written on the account regardless of who wrote them.

That doesn’t mean joint checking accounts are bad. They are for many a practical way to run family finances, especially for married couples. It’s just important to know that both parties are personally liable.
