A General Contractor is any individual or entity who uses more than one building trade or craft on a single project or under a single building permit. It also includes any individual or entity that supervises or consults on such a project.
A general contractor must be registered with the State of Washington Department of Labor and Industries to lawfully work in the state.
To become registered, a contractor must submit an application to the Department of Labor and Industries along with evidence of an acceptable type of workers’ compensation insurance for the contractor’s employees, a surety bond, and liability insurance.
